The Petrified are stone figures that react to your footsteps and to touch. Light destroys them. From Chapter X, Parallel Paths, the sphere can also focus light into a beam, the Light Concentrate. Burn them whenever light is at hand, and the 100 usually come before the story ends.

If you are short, go to Chapter XIII, As One, sub-chapter Surviving corruption. It starts in a room full of Petrified with a mirror. Shine the mirror at them, and restart from the checkpoint (pause menu) to repeat.
