Rykard sits below Volcano Manor on Mt. Gelmir, the volcano west of Altus Plateau.

Talk to Tanith, the lady on the throne in the manor's main hall, and accept her invitation. She gives you a key.
In the corridor beside her hall, open the first door on the right and hit the right-hand wall of the room. It is an illusion and vanishes.
The path behind it leads down into the volcano and through a town, past the Godskin Noble, to a waygate into Rykard's arena.
At the start of the fight, pick up the Serpent-Hunter, the great spear lying in the arena, and equip it (Options, Equipment). It is made for this fight. In his second half, its skill (L2) breaks up the rain of flaming skulls he calls down.
