The apples (health) and horns (rage) come from the 35 Nornir Chests, the chests sealed by three runes nearby that you break, burn or turn to the letters on the chest, some against a timer. Open all 35. The one in Muspelheim's Crucible opens after the first six trials there.

The tools the runes need:

Your companion's arrows: aim with L2, shoot with , switch type with . Sonic arrows break glossy green or blue blockages. Sigil arrows stick where they land and burst when fire reaches them, so several placed close together carry a flame along a chain.
The blades light fire: aim with L2 and throw them with R2.
The spear: plant spears with L2 and R1, then detonate them all at once with .
Fire bombs: pick one up from a cauldron and throw it at gold rubble or a rune.

PowerPyx's Nornir Chest guide has screenshots of each chest and its solution.
