God of War Ragnarök Guide & Roadmap

God of War Ragnarök's platinum takes one playthrough, and nothing in it is missable: every place with a collectible stays open after the ending. Almost every trophy comes from finishing the nine realms to 100 %, with all their collectibles and favours (the game's side quests), and much of that opens only after the story. The hardest part comes last: two optional bosses who need fully upgraded gear.

  1. 1Main quests, collectibles later (about 20 hours)

    Play to the credits after the last main quest.

    • Choose any difficulty under Options > Settings > Gameplay > Challenge Level, and change it whenever you like. Give Me Story is the easiest.
    • Do not hunt for collectibles yet. Many need abilities the story hands out later, and some appear only after the ending.
    • Drops you leave behind wait in the blue chest at every shop.
  2. 2Back through the nine realms

    After the credits, go to Sindri's House, the dwarf blacksmith Sindri's home and the hub between the realms. Talk to Ratatoskr, the squirrel who looks after the World Tree there. He gives you the Yggdrasil Seeds that open three new gateways: Jötunheim, Niflheim's Mist Fields and Midgard's Sanctuary Grove. The map's realm overview shows what each area still holds, except relics (special attacks), shields and Jewels of Yggdrasil.

    The Nornir Chests, each sealed by three runes nearby, hold the apples and horns of Silver TrophyFull Belly. Legendary chests hold the jewels that repair your amulet for Silver TrophyHow it's Going.

    Take the realms in this order: Svartalfheim, Helheim, Jötunheim, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Muspelheim, Midgard, Niflheim. After the story ticks off the favours that earn a trophy of their own. Along the way:

    • Svartalfheim, the dwarves' realm: open the legendary chests at Modvitnir's Rig and in Alberich Hollow. They hold the two pieces of the Muspelheim Seed, which opens the gateway to Muspelheim. Do the two favours of Durlin, who runs the tavern in the dwarf town Niðavellir, in the order below.
    • Vanaheim: its hidden north, the Crater, opens with the favour Scent of Survival. Finish the Crater's nine hunts (Silver TrophyInvasive Species). Their Dragon Teeth and Dragon Claw pay for an armour set (Silver TrophyDragon Slayer).
    • Muspelheim: the Crucible, its arena, holds the 15 combat challenges of Silver TrophyTrials by Fire.
    • Niflheim comes last. Destroying all 48 of Odin's Ravens across the realms brings out the Raven Keeper at its Raven Tree. He drops a hilt that Silver TrophyCollector needs.
    Durlin's favours (story spoilers)Show

    Do Durlin's favour A Viking Funeral first, at Sverd Sands (Silver TrophyFuneral for a Friend). Until the funeral he waits there instead of in his tavern. Then bring him the hammer of the rebellion (Bronze TrophyRebel Leader).

  3. 3King Hrólf and Gná

    Two optional bosses at level 9, the highest gear level, best left for last. For both, craft a Resurrection Stone at a shop, which revives you once, and switch to Give Me Story.

    • Upgrade weapons, their attachments and one full armour set to level 9. The set's three pieces must share its name (Gold TrophyReady for Commitment).
    • Berserkers are optional bosses fought at gravestones across the realms. Once the other nine are beaten, King Hrólf's gravestone at King's Grave in Midgard opens (Gold TrophyGrave Mistake).
    • Gná, the Valkyrie queen, waits in Muspelheim's Crucible (Gold TrophyThe True Queen).
