When a segment of the Ancient Magic meter at the bottom right is full, press L1 and R1 together while the prompt shows over an enemy. 34 kinds of enemy count, the ones in the checklist. The Enemies collection lists more, but enemies of a single story quest and the Infamous Foes, who appear only once, don't count. All 34 still appear after the story.
