Hogwarts Legacy Guide & Roadmap
Hogwarts Legacy's platinum takes one long playthrough and three short ones. On your main save you play the story on any difficulty, then finish every quest and collection in free roam. The world stays open after the ending with everything still reachable, so nothing on that save can be missed. The only trophies you can miss are the four house trophies: your house is chosen once, at the start, and each house you did not pick takes a new game played for about two hours. The long part is the free roam after the story, with 57 side quests, 95 Merlin Trials and 603 collection items, which also carry you to level 40, the cap.
1Your first year, in any house
From the start until the credits after The Final Repository, the last main quest.
Many puzzles, doors and chests need spells the story has not given you yet. Anything you cannot open or solve now can wait for Steps 2 and 3, so follow the story and take side quests as you pass them. Some main quests ask for a minimum level, and side quests are the easiest way to reach it. From level 5 you earn one talent point per level, to spend on upgrades in the Talents menu. Take whatever suits you: no trophy depends on which talents you pick.
- The prologue, The Path to Hogwarts, ends at the Sorting Ceremony. The Sorting Hat suggests a house, and you can pick any other instead. Apart from its own trophy (Step 4), the house changes only some dialogue and one quest, and it can't be changed later.
- Ancient Magic is your character's special attack, unlocked in the main quest Welcome to Hogsmeade and used with L1 and R1 together once its meter at the bottom right has filled. Use it once on every new kind of enemy you meet (
Finishing Touches). The 34 kinds that count all still appear after the story, so any you miss can be found later. - When Clementine Willardsey in The Three Broomsticks, the inn in Hogsmeade, offers the side quest Follow the Butterflies, finish it before you follow any other trail of butterflies (
Followed the Butterflies). Another trail first can cost you an item the collections need. - After the main quest Flying Class, buy a broom at Spintwitches Sporting Needs, the broom shop in Hogsmeade. Flying makes travel far quicker, and the shop's owner, Albie Weekes, later sends you on broom races.
- The main quest The Caretaker's Lunar Lament teaches Alohomora, the lockpicking spell, and starts the hunt for Demiguise statues: small figures you can only pick up at night. Each one you hand to the caretaker, Gladwin Moon, brings Alohomora closer to its next level, so take them as you find them.
- After the main quest Fire and Vice, Professor Weasley, the teacher who sends you to your first classes, gives you Professor Weasley's Assignment. Finish it before you start A Dragon Debrief (a quest of your friend Poppy's) or Mum's the Word (one of your friend Natty's). Otherwise either can drop out of your quest log, and that friend's quest line can't be finished (Step 2).
2Your teachers' assignments and every side quest
After the credits the game returns you to free roam, with every place still open. Now finish the spells and every quest.
- Learn the remaining spells (
The Spell Master). Most come from the professors' assignments, small tasks each professor sends by owl. Every spell counts except the three Unforgivable Curses, which no trophy needs. - Hand 22 Demiguise statues in all to Gladwin Moon in the Faculty Tower, in the castle's South Wing. That gives Alohomora its third and last level, which opens every lock in the game.
- With that level, climb from the Headmaster's Office to his upper study, the highest point of the castle (
Room with a View). The office opened during the main quest The Polyjuice Plot. - Finish all 57 side quests (
The Good Samaritan). The quest menu lists the ones you have finished (the bottom icon of its left column), so compare it with the trophy's checklist. - Three of them are broom races against the record of Imelda Reyes, a Slytherin flyer. Albie Weekes gives them one at a time, each after a broom upgrade you buy from him (
Flight the Good Flight). A race you lose stays on the map to try again.
Relationship quests, the quest lines of your three closest friends, don't count as side quests. Finish each friend's line as well:
- Natty, Natsai Onai, the transfer student from Uagadou whom you meet in Charms Class (
The Avenging Gazelle). - Poppy Sweeting, the Hufflepuff who looks after beasts, from Beasts Class (
Beast Friends). - Sebastian Sallow, the Slytherin you duel in your first Defence Against the Dark Arts Class, whose last quest opens only after the story (
A Sallow Grave).
Your choices in these quests make no difference to any trophy.
- Learn the remaining spells (
3Exploring the Highlands for every collection
What is left is collecting, the longest part of the platinum. Everything stays reachable in free roam, and nearly all of it earns XP towards level 40.
- Complete every collection in the Collections menu, 603 items (
Collector's Edition). Many are rewards for challenges, the tiered goals in the Challenges menu, and each reward has to be claimed there. Field Guide Pages, the pages hidden all over the map, are the one kind you need only until every Field Guide Pages challenge is done. - Light every Floo Flame, the fast-travel points (
Floo Around the World). - Solve all 95 Merlin Trials, small puzzles you start by placing Mallowsweet, a plant, on a stone circle (
Merlin's Beard!). - Find the rest of the 33 Demiguise statues (
Demiguise Dread). - Clear both battle arenas, each a Merlin statue ringed by jars that starts five rounds of fights (
Rise to the Challenges). - Breed every kind of beast in the Room of Requirement, the hidden room in the castle that its own main quest gives you (
The Nature of the Beast). - Brew every potion at a potion station (
Going Through the Potions). - Grow every plant at a potting table (
Put Down Roots). - Once you are level 34, play Professor Weasley's last two main quests, Weasley's Watchful Eye and The House Cup (
The Seeker of Knowledge). The story leaves you around level 25. - At level 40, the cap, spend your last talent points (
Savvy Spender).
Trophies you may not have yet
Most of these unlock as you play, but these might not, so now is a great time to get them done. Any time lists each with when it first opens.
- Tip a cow over with the Flipendo spell ten times, in East Hogsmeade Valley (
Spilled Milk). - Stun ten different enemies with Mandrakes, a screaming plant you throw in fights (
The Root of the Problem). - Land 100 hits in a row in one fight (
Raising Expectations). - Take down 50 enemies with Petrificus Totalus, the stealth spell (
The Ends Petrify the Means). - Upgrade one piece of gear three times at the Enchanted Loom in the Room of Requirement (
Third Time's a Charm).
- Complete every collection in the Collections menu, 603 items (
4The other three houses (about 2 hours each)
Each house has a trophy for reaching the Map Chamber, a room deep under the castle, in the main quest Jackdaw's Rest. Your main game gave you one of them. For each of the others, start a new game in a free save slot, so your main save stays as it is, choose that house at the Sorting Ceremony and play the main quests until Jackdaw's Rest. With cutscenes skipped it takes about two hours. The four houses ticks off each one:
- Slytherin (
The Toast of the Town) - Hufflepuff (
The Auror's Apprentice) - Gryffindor (
The Gryffindor in the Graveyard) - Ravenclaw (
The Wise Owl)
- Slytherin (
