You need five kills in one standoff, the challenge offered with when approaching an enemy group openly.

Finish Ghosts from the Past, a main tale in Act 2, to receive Sakai Clan Armor. Upgrade it to level IV at an armorer and equip it. This is different from Samurai Clan Armor.
Buy Standoff Streak and Improved Standoff Streak under Techniques → Ghost → Evolving Tactics.
Approach a group with at least five enemies. Start the standoff, hold , and release as the first enemy attacks. For each following enemy, tap as they rush into range.

Ignore the enemy's feints. The lightly armored patrols in Izuhara, the southern region, give you more time to react than the late-game enemies.
