A long rest is a night at camp that restores health and spell slots. Go to camp, then use the campfire or a bedroll and choose a long rest.

A full long rest costs 40 camp supplies (food and drink from your inventory) on Balanced and 80 on Tactician.
With fewer supplies you only get a partial rest, which does not count.
Rests the story starts for you count.

Four full long rests unlock it. You will take many more than that in any playthrough.
